Luis Riu, CEO of the company
Riu is the surname of the family that founded the business in Mallorca, Spain, back in 1953 when they purchased a small hotel in Playa de Palma. Here they forged a customer-focused service philosophy and a way of doing business based on honesty and hard work. Our vocation has been passed down through the generations for more than 70 years, and that is why family values still play an important role at RIU today. The third and fourth generations of the Riu family currently lead the governing and management bodies of RIU Hotels & Resorts. In turn, each hotel is a big family that also includes you.

Luis Riu, CEO of the company
Luis Riu Güell is CEO and owner of the international hotel chain RIU Hotels & Resorts. He is a member of the third generation of the Riu family that founded the company in 1953. He has held the position of CEO since 1998. Until June 2024, he shared the position with his sister Carmen Riu, who after her retirement left her executive responsibilities to become Chairman of the Board of Directors of the RIU Group. Luis Riu Güell was born in Palma de Mallorca in 1960. He is married and has three children. He has a degree in Business Administration from the University of Barcelona and always had a clear vocation for the hotel industry. He has extensive experience in the Riu family chain: in 1985 he carried out the expansion of the RIU chain in the Canary Islands; in 1991 he was appointed president, a position from which he directed international expansion; and since 1998 he has been CEO of the RIU Group.
